Blizzard has confirmed that its upcoming open-world StarCraft shooter—slated for release in 2030—will “not be an Xbox exclusive.”
A representative for the World of Warcraft developer revealed the latest details on this franchise revival—still a long way from launch—during an email exchange with Kotaku following BlizzCon 2026. This news slightly broadens the scope of potential platforms for the new StarCraft title, though the question of exactly where it will launch remains complex.
When Blizzard unveiled the game at BlizzCon via a cinematic trailer titled “Dominion,” they did not specify which platforms players would use to play it in 2030. While past entries in the RTS series traditionally launched on PC, the only concrete platform confirmation to date came from Xbox UK, which stated that a version for “Xbox consoles” was planned.
Kotaku subsequently sought clarification from Blizzard and received a response stating that, for now, the company “can only say that StarCraft will not be an exclusive title.” When asked if “non-exclusive” meant the game would come to other consoles or simply include a PC version, Blizzard indicated that they would request corrections from any outlet describing the new StarCraft as an Xbox exclusive.
In other words, with at least four years of development remaining, Blizzard is keeping its cards close to the chest. While this response falls short of specifying exact platforms, it is not without significance. The Microsoft-owned developer is currently unwilling to confirm whether PlayStation or even “Switch 2” players will be able to purchase the game; however, by explicitly avoiding the term “exclusive,” Blizzard implies that their plans involve support for at least one other platform.
It is worth noting that when discussing a game launching four years from now, the state of the console market at that time is difficult to predict. Microsoft is currently working behind the scenes on the mysterious devices under “Project Helix,” which some speculate could launch as early as next year. Sony may not have publicly announced exactly when the PS6 will be released, but it will almost certainly be in players’ hands by 2030.
